My wonderful friend Thump has an excellent new post on her blog with further thoughts on Chantel Sebire's tragic dying. Chantel's death itself wasn't tragic. But the dying that she did. Heartrendingly awful.

Head over to Thump's blog for some excellent points about euthanasia and the dilemmas arising from it.

I would think that as an atheist, any life that ends before its time would be tragic.

I think christians should be all over the idea of assisted suicide, doesn't that make you get to your heaven sooner?

Obviously not.

Typical non-answer.

If you don't have anything to add on this thread, why not go back to the one you abandoned and deal with the 3 conversations all directed at you that you left in the middle of?

Or is it because you have nothing to offer, nothing to contribute, no comment?

The bible supports Euthenasia.

The centurion stabs jeebus with a spear to put him out of his misery. If it's good enough for jeebus, it's good enough for us.

My no comment was to poodles lack of imagination.

How does the centurion stabbing Jesus support euthenasia? That is a pretty lame claim.

Why did Jesus cross the road?
Because he was nailed to the chicken!

Why didn't Jesus replace the stone from the tomb when he rose from the dead?
Well, he was born in a barn.

What did Jesus say as he was being crucified?
"Ahhhhhhhhhhh...!"

What did Jesus say when he was up on the cross?
"This was one Hell of a way to spend my Easter vacation."

What's the difference between Jesus Christ and an oil painting?
You only need one nail to hold up a picture.

Jesus Christ walks into a hotel. He hands the inkeeper three nails and asks...
"Can you put me up for the night?"

Why can't Jesus eat M&M's?
They keep falling through his hands.

-Or is that too much?

Thanks for the redirect, I had been meaning to blog about Chantal as soon as I first read her story, but you pipped me at the post :-D and a really good post it was too... then I decided what the hell, I'm going to go for it as well anyway and give you a mention :)

I've noticed in the last week this story has generated a lot of new debate about euthansia in the oz news and certain forums. I really feel it is a good thing and it should be openly discussed in the community.

This is a small piece from the Dutch guidelines on euthanasia...

"Doctors have two distinct duties to their patients. The first is to relieve suffering and the second is to preserve life. Because honouring a request for euthanasia conflicts with this second duty, doctors are allowed to refuse. Nurses may also refuse to assist in performing euthanasia or preparing for it. Neither doctors nor nurses can ever be censured for failing to comply with requests for euthanasia. The new Act is intended to ensure that doctors and nurses will never have to compromise their personal principles. Doctors are under no obligation to perform euthanasia,
and patients have no right to it. If a doctor refuses to perform euthanasia, however, he must refer the patient to another doctor who may be willing to grant the request."

Reg,
I think if I was suffering like Chantal Sebire, with no hope of a cure, just a long drawn out and very painful death, I would be trying to end it just like she did.

Your stupid comment is just that - stupid, you rabbiting clod!

Poodles,
I would have thought that too, the quicker the better!

doofus
I wonder if Reg can laugh at any of those...especially...Jesus walks into a hotel...I accidentally guffawed and spat my cup of tea at the screen when I read that one...but then I've always liked a bit of sending up of the myths, on ya mate :)

Coming from a christian that's a fucking joke.
Ooooooh 'eck there's a big man in the sky that made us and looks out for us....now that's lacking imagination!!

Don't see how you would know what coming from an atheist viewpoint is glob!

Fiery's point was that her life didn't end before it's time....specifically didn't end when it should have, see your sweet lord who made us also made aggressive cancers as well, wasn't that nice of him.
Apparently some of us need to be tested!

You've been at your snide unfunny best recently globular.
You were getting almost mellow before what happened? You go to jesus camp over easter and get into trouble for fraternising with the enemy?

Fiery said...

I've been wondering the same thing Johnny.

What's with glob and the complete lack of interesting things to say? Just snide remarks. He didn't even have the decency to go back to that Ultimate Sacrifice thread and finish the conversation he stared with me. Even though I said it was interesting and wanted to continue. Nope. Just went over there made a few snide remarks claimed to be too tired to bother with anymore and left again.

Maybe over Easter he realized how close he had flitted to the dark side and firmly planted himself back on the jesus side of the fence. Got too close to our side and had to rededicate himself to smarminess.

I think reg is in the poop, too much doubting so he's got problems.

Perhaps we should redirect him over to Doubting Faith.... :-/

That seems to be a typical Christian trait. Snide remarks.

As for the subject of this post, I feel sadness for this woman. Yes, she should have been allowed to die a peaceful deal surrounded by her loved ones. Cruel "christian morals" cause so much unnecessary suffering.

Hi Stardust!

There is so much sadness in this world caused directly by religion.
