my first time

First off, a big thank you to my own dear brother for sending this to me!!!

Two heads are better than one and four hands are better than two.
}:-)This is the first video I've attempted to put on my blog, so we'll see how it goes.

I clicked on the little video posty icon, browsed my computer, selected the file, and it immediately put up a "posted video" html code and my cat wants me to play with her.

While I was obliging my dear Neeks, the computer finally decided to upload the video. I wonder how long it will take since it is almost 3.4 MB. Started at 12:02pm....

Well there's nothing more that I can do but wait and hope that the "error on page" in the lower left corner is inaccurate. In the mean time I'm going to see how many of my xmyth decorations I can get taken down before this (fingers crossed) uploads.

12:45pm ... it says it's "done" in the lower left corner, but the little green rod hasn't fully reached ...completion.

*sigh* how long to wait my crossed fingers are getting cramped.

Do I dare push "preview" and see if it is there?

The first time is always the most awkward, not knowing what to expect, not even sure how to tell whe you are finished.

OMG OMG OMG!! It worked!!!! WOOHOOOO!!!!

Now that I've done it once, I can do it again. That wasn't so hard. In fact it was rather nice, cramped fingers and all.

Hope you enjoy it as well!!!!!

AARRGGGHH!!! It shows up correctly in preview mode, but when I "view blog" it has the little red x of death in the upper left corner.

Please, oh please, tell me that it loads on your computer!!!!!!
stupid technofear. booooooooo

[edit] Stardust has informed me that everyone is enjoying the little red x of death.

Here's the link. I will look into embedding the youtube code.

blast...

ok. I followed the directions at about.com which I've always abhored. So here's hoping...

[additional edit]
for Sean... who didn't get the initial red cross and was feeling forlorn and left out. Perhaps this will cheer him! :)

Nope, sorry fiery...it doesn't show up. I know how to copy and paste the embedded code from YouTube, but afraid I can't be of much help with how you are trying to post yours.

Yes, some of this stuff is frustrating while we are learning how to do it.

CURSES FOILED AGAIN!!!

Thanks for letting me know Stardust!!!!

I see this guy palying a guitar and then another guy comes and plays at the same time. I want the red cross thingy :(

Fiery said...

So... Sean... are you getting the vid clip twice?????

Sean Wright said...

No just the once

That was fun to listen to, the pickin' sounded clean and bang on, but the second pair of hands "coulda bin louder" (i.e. a very distant relative of bin Laden). I wonder what it would be like on a Banjo.

I enjoyed it.

Poodles said...

"On a banjo"
I suspect it would be straight out of "Deliverance". :)

Stardust said...

Hey, I see it now! yay! :D

Fiery said...

Does anyone know where I can find more of this type of music? :D

i love bluegrass. it doesn't all sound rednecky....there are variations. did you like the movie 'o brother, where art thou?'. that has some good bluegrass. Alison Krauss is good. jack black's stuff from 'cold mountain' is good. one of my favorite bands is Bright Eyes and he does some bluegrass. nickel creek is good. those are all pretty mainstream places to start looking.

Fiery said...

Thanks heaps for the suggestions EintoB! The library here has all but the Nickel Creek, and actually they have it at a branch library, I might have them send for it.

Thanks again!!!!

"OMG OMG OMG!! It worked!!!! WOOHOOOO"

Is that some religious chant"

I thought this was an atheist blog.

Fiery said...

Dear Glob,

Since I'm an atheist "OMG OMG OMG!! It worked!!!! WOOHOOOO"
is an empty phrase shouting enthusiasm for unexpected success.

Since you are a fundy "OMG OMG OMG!! It worked!!!! WOOHOOOO" is blasphemy and a blatant violation of the 2nd or 3rd Commandment (depending on who is counting).

Thank you for your inquiry.
Fiery

Reg Golb said...

But you say you don't believe in a god. Should you say

I think "O" seems fitting enough.

"M" why would you claim something that you don't believe in.

"G" I notice you capitalized the G. Freud would have a field day with that. But anyway, since you don't believe "G" even exists, wouldn't it serve your socalled "lack of belief" better?

Sean Wright said...

@reg,

What do you call the day after wednesday and before friday. Remembering that you believe in one god:)

Fiery said...

Dragons, unicorns, Leprechauns, Elves, fairies, Dwarves.

I don't have to "believe" in something to write about them or know details from the folk literature surrounding them. In fact, I'll bet you could tell me 3 "facts" about each of the creatures/beings in the list above. Yet none of them is real.

oh.

is that it?

Do you believe everything you read?

Oh dear Glob. I hate to have to be the one to tell you this, but none of the creatures/beings in that list is real.

There's no dragons, no Jesus, no unicorns, no God Almighty, no Leprechauns, no Holy Ghost, no fairies, no Virgin Mary, and no Dwarves. At least not the type of dwarves that love mining gems, live under ground and go swimming with little hairy women.

And if you think that my capitalizing the G in OMG is a Freudian slip. BWAHAHAHAHAHAAH!!!!

Fiery's really a believer everyone, she capitalized the "G"!!!!!!!

No, Glob, you're just grasping at straws. How stupid would it have looked if I'd typed "OMg OMg OMg!! It worked!!!! WOOHOOOO"
*snerk*

Fiery said...

ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
GOOD ONE SEAN!!!!!!

oh shit....

I should have said

gOOD ONE SEAN!!!

Remember everybody, we're atheists, we're not allowed to capitalize the sacred "g".

Poodles said...

OMG! OMG! OMG! I wonder if the fundies would consider that sacreligious to yell it out while making their "O" face? But I bet they yell it anyway...

Fiery said...

Poodles-
*SNERK*

I imagine that fundies consult the Song of Solomon to know what to say during their "O" face.

"OH! OH! YOU CLUSTER OF HENNA BLOSSOMS!" (SoS 1:14)

"OH! OH! YOUR LEGS ARE LIKE JEWELS!!!" (SoS7:1)

"OH! OH! YOUR NOSE IS LIKE THE TOWER OF LEBANON!!!!"(SoS 7:4)

Oh just stop, you had me at Henna Blossoms!

Richard said...

Sean, that was a good point!! Except, every day of the week is named after a God!

Sunday - Sun (as in, God of the Sun)

Monday - Moon (as in, Goddess of the Moon)

Tuesday - Tiu (German translation from "Mars", the Roman God of War)

Wednesday - Woden (top Norse God, aka Odin, Thor's father)

Thursday - Thor (Odin's eldest son)

Friday - Freya (Ger. transl'n of Venus, Goddess of Love)

Saturday - Cronus (Ger. translated to Saturn the planetfrom Cronus was a Titan and Ruler of the Universe until he was dethroned by his son Zeus, the God! Titans are the children of Uranus and Gaea)

Seven months of the year are similarly named:

January - Janus, the God of doorways, and of the rising and setting sun.

February - month of purification

March - Mars

April - Aphrodite

May - Maia (Roman earth goddess, wife of Vulcan)

June - Juno (Roman queen of heaven, a daughter of Saturn and the wife and sister of Jupiter: the protector of women and marriage)

July - Julius (Julius was the name given to deify Gaius Caesar, after his death)

August - Augustus (another deified Caesar)

Sept.-Dec. are just numbered months.

So, by Glob's logic, because we use these god's names, we all believe in a veritable menagerie of Gods.

Stardust said...

Using glob's logic, every time I say "holy shit" does that mean I think shit is holy? :-S

Reg Golb said...

What a fun bunch we are.

stardust - I don't know. Do YOU believe in holy water?

It is just rather funny that all of you are so "enlightened" and yet you still haven't evolved a new way to express yourselves.

GD
Holy S
OMG
JC

Why? Why don't you believe what you are selling? :)

Doesn't anyone else here find it ironic?
Also, your voluntary use of religious words and meaning is not "equivolent" with me using the days and the months which are universally required in America.

Maybe down under I could use some outback "equivolent".

G day hmmmmmmm.

Reg Golb said...

not water, not water. holy stuff.

Richard said...

Glob, there is nothing ironic about it all.

Those words and phrases evolved in religious communities as expletives (profanities, obscenities, vulgarities), and are culturally ubiquitous. They are used for exclamation, & for shock value, particularly. That is the nature of their etymology; people just pick them up because they have shock value.

I consider some expletives to be pretty unfortunate, as I tried to show in a different thread. But the religious profanities are words W.O.M. (without meaning), even when used positively by true believers. I suspect the dismay of believers keeps such profanities alive, AS profanities.

Above all, why should we care?**

Sean Wright said...

@Reg,

I don't choose to create a whole new vocabulary, because I don't think its worth the time and because everytime I use god damn or fuckiing jesus, I know somewhere a fundamentalist nutbag like yourself will be having a fit.

Its conventional usage, I know you had a substandard education and you were crippled by your religious belief but come on reg stretch yourself.

Richard said...

"...reg stretch yourself"??

Hmmmm?

Fiery said...

Nope, not blind Richard. Glob'll just get hairy palms.

It seems that xians hang out on atheist sites because they like what they see. We allow ourselves to have a sense of humor. ;)

Also...maybe glob is questioning his beliefs and will have a deconversion soon? I had a xian troll hanging out on my blog and he has gone from fundie, to moderate xian and now to Deist...and is questioning that.

So...glob might be actually liking what he sees here, but is trying to hang onto his gob beliefs?

I don't hang out on Xian blogs because there is nothing of interest to me there.

Fiery said...

hmmmmm
I have, on the odd occassion, fantasized about having just that effect on glob.

I've often wondered why fundies hang out on atheist blogs particularly glob on mine and Poodles' blogs. Dani was here for awhile, but she shows up on all new atheist blogs hoping for a conversion success story. Poor Nads had to put up with her when he first put up his blog. Dani and her Truth.

*shudders*

I absolutely agree about not going to fundy blogs, nothing to learn, no point.

Reg Golb said...

"We allow ourselves to have a sense of humor. ;)"

I wish you would allow ME to have a sense of humor, even if you don't think it is funny. I am just goofing around. Since very few of you ever get that I am not ALWAYS serious about everything, From now on I will preface my comments with "JFF"

JFF Fiery, It seems from your point of view, we both live in a "fantasy" world.

Why do I hang out here? When I am not busy with my masters class, I enjoy browsing the net. I truly like fiery. I think, religion aside, I would enjoy her as a friend. (I guess that would not be the case for her)
Fiery actually encouranged my very own "first time" when she asked for a link. Thanks buddy.

glob you're a living breathing laugh riot because of the things you ARE serious about!!

Fiery said...

So.... Globbuddy after all the weirdness on my blog and Poodles you want to be friends?

huh. I'd never gotten that impression from you. So let me ask you, when you're not being a fundy do you talk about interesting things? I'm just asking because when I'm friends with people, it's not about the activities or going to "events" or *shudder* shopping. It's about the conversations.

And yes indeed I have a rich and varied fantasy life. Though I am fairly certain your pastor would consider it sinful.
}:-D One of the perks to being an atheist... no thought crime.

Oh.... on a side note, I always like a good "first time" story. What did you mean by this part? Fiery actually encouranged my very own "first time" when she asked for a link. Thanks buddy.

Reg Golb said...

A while back you "encouraged" me to use a link to some argument I was making. So I learned how to do it. I pretty much have to relearn it every time again, I just know where to go now.

My very existance probably turns your stomach. But I don't feel that way about you. I enjoy reading your blog, as I have always said. I disagree alot, but I think you are an interesting person.

IF it were possible to keep religion out of our conversations, which is clearly not possible, we could be friends. But in our current states of existance, friendly might be a better description.

Sean Wright said...

@Reg,

I don'r know about Fiery, but turn my stomach, nah mate, you do give me the shits some times :)

As to religion coming up in the conversation, you deliberately tried to wind Fiery up with your first comment on this post.

Sean Wright said...

"don't"- damn laptop and my big fingers and my lazy ass for not proof reading.

Poodles said...

When I read "first time" that isn't what image I got first.

I don't think Blog ger is coming to my blog any more. I don't see his cox.net feed from arkansas on my sitemeter any more.

So unless he is bouncing off of another feed...
Sorry Fiery, he's all yours.

Richard said...

Wow, I go away for 12 hours and there's a whole bunch of comments. Stardust's idea is very benevolent. Nice.

So, Fiery has a fundybuddy; who'd a thunk it? I can hear it now, "Such a nice girl ;-) If only she was a Xian."

Hey Reg, pls. note that I praise your better humorous remarks and comments! But be careful. Don't poke the animal for fun, even if you mean well (as they did here). It is not the same as genuine humor. Perhaps you could express things as 'Devil's Advocate'.

You wrote:
"IF it were possible to keep religion out of our conversations,..."

What a great point. Reg. Why do you think it is not possible. Seriously?"

Stardust said...

All of my friends and family (except for my evil atheist immediate family) outside of blogland are god believers of one form or another and the subject of god and religion only comes up with fundy family members who feel compelled to interject some kind of god comment in nearly every conversation because, they say "they cannot separate gawd from anything in their life and they are so joyously happy in the Lawd that they just have to constantly share".

I never bring it up first, never bring up my lack of god beliefs, and the fundy relatives ALWAYS have to say something about their imaginary friend, and we are expected to sit there and smile politely and not dispute it. We get along splendidly if I just keep my mouth shut, but the minute I say anything in disagreement, it starts WW3 and the cries of persecution and "you are disrespecting my beliefs" begins.

Stardust said...

Just looked at Reg's blog for the first time (yawn)...like I was saying, he hangs out at atheist blogs because they are much more interesting.

Richard said...

On a Secular Grace:

I had some rather religious members of my ex's family to dinner one evening. The husband suggested we say Grace, so I said, "Sure".

Making it up as I went, and paraphrasing now, I said,
"Let us give thanks to the minds that developed and then farmed the plants and animals we are about to eat. Let us give praise to modern transportation companies and grocery stores.

Above all, let's start our meal by toasting Barb, for her hard work as a doctor by which she paid* for this food, and for her hard work in the kitchen to make this delightful meal. To Barb...
"

*I was a stay at home Dad at that time.

The guests could not say a word in response, and just joined in with the toast. BWAH HA HA HA!

Stardust said...

richard, I might just use that if ever asked again to say grace in my own house. good one

Fiery said...

Sean- damn laptop and my big fingers and my lazy ass for not proof reading. *snerk* Do you know what they say about a man with big fingers? }:-D

Stardust- When you checked Reg's profile did it list 2 blogs or just the one with his wife telmeimwrong(you're wrong!)???

Stardust said...

Fiery, on his profile page it lists just Nuggets of Truth, he has Telmeimrong listed as a contributor. But on his main page he also has a link to Telmeimrong/Whatchathink and nothing has been posted there since October.

Stardust said...

Also...Reg's list of interests is quite small. Maybe he needs more hobbies.

Fiery said...

yeah, the telmeimwrong(you're wrong!) character shriveled up and drifted away when we razzed the hell out of her on my blog last fall. she couldn't stand the heat so she got out of the kitchen.

's all right though. she was just flat out wrong and was unable to face that fact. so she took her faith and went back home to their depraved daughter.

*sigh*

that is such a sad way to see your family members. depraved. :(
