The Duh Factor: TWO

Catholic bishops will fight Obama on abortion

No shit. Really? Catholic bishops are against abortion? Nooooo!!! And they're going to use their position of authority in the Catholic Church to try and force politicians to kow-tow to the churches political views? You're kidding.

Oh, and get this. They've established a brand new "Blessing of a Child in the Womb". Awwwww they've given the little tumor it's own special prayer. And any Catholic politician that supports a woman's right to CHOOSE when to have or NOT to have a baby can just stop taking communion until they fix their attitude.

Fuckwits.

Oh, and a big fuck you to Bishop Joseph Martino of Scranton, PA who singled out Vice President-elect Biden, a Catholic, Scranton native who supports abortion rights. "I cannot have a vice president-elect coming to Scranton to say he's learned his values there when those values are utterly against the teachings of the Catholic Church," Martino said.

It's not about love is it Bishop Martino? It's about power and control. And women with children are easier to control. You threaten with excommunication and damnation, you control through fear and intimidation. Where's the love of Christ for christ's sake?

DUH!

This may open a big can o' worms, but here it is:

{rant}

I think abortion should only be allowed in instances of rape, incest, or for the mother's/fetus' health. To use abortion as a means of birth control is sickening and evil. If a woman (and/or man) takes some fucking responsibility *before* having sex, then they wouldn't have to get the abortion in the first place (in cases of birth control abortions.)

{/rant}

But the church better watch out if they start putting their noses into politics... it should cost them their tax exemption.

Speaking of tax exemptions- maybe I should start my own religion (or lack thereof. Then I could be tax exempt! 'The Church of the PlayStation3.' :)

Nads,

I am actually very interested in your response to this.

I had a fundy politician show up my door who believes that LIFE begins the moment the sperm pierces the egg. Therefore abortion is evil. However, he said it was ok in the instances of incest, rape, and possibly mother's health.

I wanted to ask him why the personality of the father determined whether or not the foetus had the right to it's life or not.

Now I realize this isn't precisely what you are claiming.

Never the less.

While it may be disturbing to you that someone is using abortion as a means of birth control. Why does it bother you?

Is it that baby (if done late enough in the pregnancy) may actually experience the pain of having it's limbs torn from it's body?

If so- then yeah, that's gross. I think they should sedate the foetus before extraction.

I am doing what I can to avoid pregnancy. I have the Nuva Ring (which takes 7 days to take effect, so I have to plan ahead should I have the opportunity for sex), the morning after pill in my drawer, and a box of condoms by my bed. I am NOT getting pregnant.

However, should those methods fail, I'm off to the women's clinic. I am NOT having another baby. Not Not NOT!!!!! having another baby. Are you saying you would be against me having an abortion?

Seriously not picking a fight. Genuinely want to explore the issue with you. precisely BECAUSE I know you're an atheist and not a fuckwitted fundy who thinks the little booger has an immortal soul.

:)

If you take all those precautions and still get pregnant, then I feel you should have the right to have an abortion. You did take the time to attempt to be responsible about it. But I would prefer the abortion to happen within a certain amount of weeks. Once a fetus reaches a certain point (I am too lazy to research when I would think that would be- but definitely before the 3rd trimester), then I feel it is cruel and evil to have the abortion of a healthy fetus.

The problem with my thinking is: who makes the determination that proper precautions were taken? I don't have an answer for that.

I guess I am pro-choice, but I am disgusted by those who would take advantage of using it as a sole means of birth control.

Then again, I am not a woman... so my opinion should not weigh as much as a woman's opinion in this type of discussion.
