open forum 4

Thank google that August is here already. July is the hottest month of the year and I for one hate the heat. *gack*

As per the last few months, I'm putting up an open forum. Here's hoping for "hugs and puppies"* instead of snark and mayhem.

There have been times when visiting other blogs that I wanted to ask the blog owner a question off topic, but never really knew where to put it. I didn't want to be rude and bust into an on-going comment-conversation.

So- This post is the opportunity for any of my readers to broach a subject, ask a personal question, bring up a topic, whatever is on your mind...

Lemme have it!

oh and ...
* It's a Buffy the Vampire Slayer thing, from an episode where James Marsters was particularly fine.

Oh good, I was hoping I would be able to post a question.

I was wondering where your values come from. Are they sort of left over from "childhood church going days" or do you have a new source from which you set your moral compass?

An excellent question. I'm going to gather my thoughts and get back to you on this.

I am temporarily allowing annonymous comments so people that follow me over from the forum can comment.

I would really appreciate if you would select other and create a temporary name as opposed to the random "annonymous" who is sooooooo lacking in personality.

Thanks FE, I think your post/reply will be enlightening to both of us.

I love the "open forum"!

I've got my notes drawn up, now to formulate my thoughts. I'm hoping by noon tomorrow, barring unforseen circumstances.

Thanks for the question Janice, you've been coming up with some really good ones!

Sean's take on morality.

It comes from the successful functioning of society. My morals and values have been passed to me by my parents & peers and to a lesser extent wider society.

Most of this learning was observational and not dictated or forced upon me.

At no time do I remember being instructed to take any moral lessons form the bible.

Very early on I learned that if I was good to others, others were good to me, it was simply a better way to live and achieved the greatest happiness for all.

Been MIA for a while just starting to catch up.Went through all of your interesting blogs this month and a question popped in my mind. What are your feelings on the Paranormal? To be more specific Ghosts and Psycics.

Fiery said...

Rick, I'm an atheist, it's all bunk.

There are no ghosts. There are weird things that happen, but they can be explained through reason, science, and people's imaginations run amok. People interpret what they see based on what they want to see or what they have come to beleive is true.

There are no psychics. There are some really good manipulators, though. People who can use their ability to make astute observations based on very little information.

Welcome back, had wondered if I'd scared you off. ;-)

Interestin that you agree with a majority of Christians on this issue.I womt go into a lengthy talk on this but suffice it to say I am somewhat middle of the road.

Naw I do not scare easily.Just when time permits I try to catch up on things.:)

I will be posting something on my blog soon which you might think amusing or interesting and somewhat in the paranormal vein. But its not really.

Rick,

It's not such a stretch that we agree, most christians are atheistic about every god, supernatural being/phenomenon except the judeo-christian god trinity. For example- christians are a-Zeus, a-Ra, a-Thor, etc...

Atheists just take it one step further.

:-)

Just a quick note from one (mostly) lurker to say that I for one miss Fiery and hope she is alright.

And I am looking forward to a new post when she is able to provide one.
