the lesson

This was told to me as a humorous story. I laughed politely to mask my horror.

The crux of the bible passage is thus...

King Nebuchadnezzar demanded that at the sound of the royal gong everyone face plant themselves in front of the golden statue. Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego said, "Yeeeaaaaah, ummmm.... NOT!" And King Nebby gave them a choice, "Worship the statue or burn in a fiery furnace". The three said, "we choose god, so pass the BBQ Sauce" and hopped in. Nebby's advisor said, "Dude! There's four in there and one looks like Jeebus!"

For the full NKJ version click here.

A lovely story to share with any Sunday school classroom of 10-12 year old children. Stick with god, remain inflammable.

It's all well and good to read of others choosing god, but that doesn't help a child with real world application does it?

So the Sunday school teacher draws a picture of a fiery furnace and a little stick figure labeled "you" and shows it to the young lad, and says... "Which would you chose? Would you stick with god and go into the furnace or would you stay safe?" The child thinks about it a long time and says, "I'd stick with god." So the teacher draws the stick figure inside the furnace.

Then the teacher says, "Alright, now what if there's a second furance..." and draws more stick figures saying, "Here is your Mother, your Father, and your Sister. If you choose god, then they will be thrown into the furnace." The child thinks for many long minutes and is really torn, not sure which answer to give. Thinking to help him the teacher says, "This is just one furnace, but there's another even bigger, hotter furnace". The child looks up disgusted, "Is the universe full of furnaces?????" [Insert polite laugh here. But the story didn't end with the punchline. Oh noooooo, it continued....]

The Mother, upon hearing the story after church, talks with her son on the way home. "Do you know which one I would want you to pick?" He sighed and said, "You'd want me to stick with god." She said "Do you know why? Because god would be there with us in the furnace." "Would he keep you from burning?" "Well not necessarily, but he'd be there with us."

indoctrinate to teach to accept a system of thought without careful evaluation or judgment.

Forcing a child to make the choice between god and his family is a hideous moral dilemma. But if you harp on it young enough and long enough it becomes automatized and not something that requires thought anymore, just a knee jerk reaction. Choose god and avoid eternal damnation and the hell with the consequences for anyone else.

Yep, and the Lord will protect torture and taser victims, just the same as he protected "fire and faggot" heretics (as they prayed to God for deliverance).

...Hey, Google spell-check doesn't recognize "faggot"!

Wondering if faggot had one 'g' I checked and found the last sentence interesting.

faggot (1)
1279, "bundle of twigs bound up," used for burning heretics (a sense attested from 1555), so that phrase fire and faggot was used to mean "punishment of a heretic." Heretics who recanted were required to wear an embroidered figure of a faggot on their sleeve, as an emblem and reminder of what they deserved. (my italics)

So medieval Christian leaders were really, really, no different from the Nazis, were they?

It really ticks me off when religious Americans say the U.S. was founded on Christian principles. B.S.!

The founders figured there was some sort of Creator, but doubted both church and Jeebus. The pilgrims at Plymouth rock were a failure, while the much less religious, merchant sailors at Jamestown were rapidly successful. The truth is that the U.S. founders were intellectual escapees of Christianity, who were able to think for themselves.

It is indoctrination by the Left and the Right, in schools, Sunday schools and churches that have made millions of Americans unable to think or read effectively. They have muddled the distinction between nationalism and patriotism* (plus hundreds of other important concepts), and so blame "America" for the wrongdoings of some of its leaders and their political direction. They (all the way up to Supreme Court judges) may be able to read the words the founders used in establishing America, but they are unable to understand the meaning.

[*patriot -def.2: a person who regards himself or herself as a defender, esp. of individual rights, against presumed interference by the federal government.]

The indoctrination process is having the only consequences it can have: increased violence, loss of life and property, burgeoning government interference (the Welfare State) and ever more inconsistent foreign and domestic policies. The madrassah's of America are its public schools, guided by an academia that admires the same philosophers admired by the World's most murderous leaders.

I toast atheist home schoolers! Their task is an enormous challenge. Just getting a couple of decent books for the kids to learn from takes weeks of research. Atheist home schoolers are to America what "Radishes" were to the U.S.S.R.!

Hey now!!! Torture and tasering are sacrosanct. At least in America or when done by Americans (the only ones moral enough to do it properly). God doesn't prevent or protect with those... he's just there with them sharing their suffering. Consider T&T a proving ground for the truly faithful.

Awwww Richard, you flatterer you, now I'm the American equivalent of a Soviet radish. yay!

American radishes are very tasty in cucumber salads —especially the female radishes, which are much more perfectly formed.

The truancy laws should be adjusted to give all children the same education. There must be no radish children, they should all properly socialized with the other American children!! Salads may only be made with Iceberg Lettuce, nothing else.

(Actually that was one of the serious definitions of education I had to learn at the U of Toronto Faculty of Education. "Education is the socialization of the child to his culture.")
